Electromyography (EMG)

This test measures the electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction and often done together with Nerve conduction studies to give more complete information.

EMG is performed by using a small sterile needle electrode and is used to assess the presence and severity of muscles and nerve disorders.

EMG is used to help diagnose:

-Muscular dystrophy

-Motor Neurone disease

-Polymyositis

-Neuromuscular junction disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis

-Spinal disc herniation (Causing neck/arm or back/leg pain)

-Peripheral neuropathy (Due to diabetes or otherwise)

-Guillian Barre´ Syndrome

-Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

-Ulnar Nerve lesions
